Antivirus Problems and How to Deal With Them
Most people do not realize the number of problems the industry has to face. Even the best antivirus software are susceptible to issues. While some are minor and can be fixed quickly, some are more serious.
One of the most significant issues is that virus-signature protection does not cover a wide range of threats. Each time a new virus is discovered it takes time before antivirus companies can create and release new anti-virus updates. This is because they have to wait until their products are able to detect the virus and send it to be analysed.
In the meantime the virus is bound to spread and it’s likely that dozens or even hundreds of computers will be affected by the new virus. It could also be transmitted to other networks. To be efficient, anti-virus software has to be able recognize and eliminate these infections quickly. This means that behaviour blocking or heuristic analysis tools are more effective than signature detection.
Another problem is that incompatibility between various antivirus programs is very common. Although the majority of antivirus software developers put an focus on developing high-quality products and pay great attention to fixing bugs, the truth is that occasionally multiple antivirus programs can result in conflicts.
